Home With Pets

About Me

Hello, my name is Kathryn and I like to be called Kathy. I’m the owner-operator of Home With Pets.

Since the pandemic, I’ve made the shift from a corporate career into hands-on animal care. I was a country kid; my family moved around country Victoria before settling in Melbourne’s Eastern suburbs. I’ve lived in Laburnum for over a decade.

Dogs

I have always loved dogs. After years of lobbying my parents I eventually got a dog. Char was a female short-haired German Shepherd (GSD). She’s the reason there is a special place in my heart reserved for exuberant large dogs. These days, I volunteer at the RSPCA, helping to exercise and care for after a large assortment of shelter dogs. I’m also the honourary “dog-mother” for extended family. To me, every dog is a “good dog”. Exploring the local area with a dog for company is my favourite form of exercise.

Cats

I’ve lived with cats for most of my life. My first rescue cat was Bendy, a ginger Domestic Short Hair (DSH). He and his brother had been found in a bag by Melbourne’s Eastern Freeway. He features in some photos on this site (including on this page). We enjoyed many wonderful years together until he passed away, aged eighteen. I now provide foster care to other cats from the same shelter.

Other

My interest is supported by a formal qualification in Animals Studies (Certificate II) as well as a degree and a previous career in Information Technology. I am a regular volunteer at RSPCA Victoria. I have invested hundreds of hours working with creatures, great and small, and also with animal-loving children and adults.

I would love to help you care for your pet/s.
